DESCRIPTION:Do you want to learn more about what research is being done at the TU/e?  \nOn Friday the 20th of March\, Kevin van Hastenberg (EM) and Gökhan Yılmaz (SPS) will present their PhD projects during an ODIN lunch lecture! \nTo enable future smart mobility systems communication and sensing systems need to be more tightly integrated. In his research Kevin focuses on combining antenna arrays for communication and sensing to create a single system operating at 77GHz and 130GHz. Besides system level research\, new manufacturing technologies like LTCC (low-temperature co-fired ceramics) and 3D metal-printing are investigated for various aspects of this project. \nGökhan works on joint communication and sensing\, a technology that is expected to play an important role in next-generation wireless systems and autonomous vehicles. The goal is to design wireless systems that can both transmit data and sense the surrounding environment. In particular\, these signals can be used to estimate parameters such as the distance\, speed\, or direction of objects while maintaining high communication performance. His research focuses on understanding the fundamental limits of such systems and designing efficient signaling methods that enable both tasks simultaneously. \nThe lunch lecture will take place on Friday\, March 20th\, 12h30-13h30\, in Colloquium 6 \nIf you subscribe\, we will provide lunch for you!

Het multipurposefregat (M-fregat) is inzetbaar voor oppervlakteoorlogsvoering en onderzeebootbestrijding. Het heeft tevens ook zijn eigen luchtverdediging aan boord. \nEr wordt in de middag lunch aangeboden. Na de lunch wordt er waarschijnlijk een praatje gehouden door de mijnenjagers. DESCRIPTION:Do you want to learn more about what research is being done at the TU/e?  \nOn Tuesday the 25th of March\, Michiel Wopereis (PHI) and Astrid Barreiro Berrio (SPS) will present their PhD projects during an ODIN lunch lecture! \nThe project of Michiel: LiDAR sensing systems are pivotal in applications such as self-driving cars\, metrology\, and optical communications. The performance of these systems depends highly on the precision and accuracy of beam steering in free space. Traditional mechanical LiDAR systems utilize moving parts to steer the beam\, often reducing robustness\, speed\, and accuracy. Our project aims to steer the beam in free space solely using the interference of light. This is known as an Optical Phased Array (OPA). \nThe project of Astrid: Modern communication depends on high-speed\, reliable networks\, and optical fiber technology forms the backbone of this system. Whether connecting cities\, linking wireless base stations\, or enabling long-distance communication\, optical fibers ensure the rapid and efficient transfer of information. To keep up with growing digital demands\, scientists are continuously working to optimize fiber-optic networks. Her PhD research tackled key challenges in fiber modeling\, introducing innovative approaches to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the first-order regular perturbation approximation (FRP) model. This whole lustrum week\, you can be hunting Hertz’s in your mission to find the one and only communication source. Finding this communication source the quickest and most often (max 1x per day)\, while using your own receiver\, will result in a promising price. However\, fear not if building receivers is not your call in life\, we will make sure you get a handleable receiver for which you only need to design an antenna. But if you like the challenge and want to increase your chances in finding this communication source first\, you can request an additional budget up to €10\,- to pimp up your receiver (with components of course)! So make sure to form a group (2-5 persons) with your fellow hunters and sign up for this activity (only one sign up per group needed\, from the team captain).

DESCRIPTION:Do you want to learn more about what research is being done at the TU/e?  \nOn Friday the 10th of January\, Kyle van Oosterhout will present his PhD project during an ODIN lunch lecture! \nA quick summary of what his research is about:  \nConventional Silicon chips are the standard for electronics because very small transistors can be made in them\, so that billions of transistors can fit on a single chip. A major disadvantage of this technology is that it is rigid and small. In applications where signals must be read from the body (such as EEG in epilepsy or EMG in muscular diseases)\, it is important to read many signals over a long distance. Flexible electronics can cheaply amplify and compress these signals over a large area and conform to the body. DESCRIPTION:Do you want to learn more about what research is being done at the TU/e?  \nOn Monday the 21st of October\, Jordi Zandboer and Sudha Malik will present their PhD projects during an ODIN lunch lecture! \nJordi Zandboer specializes in Sub-THz antenna-in-package and antenna-on-chip design for short range\, high-datarate wireless communication chips. \nSudha Malik’s research focuses on advancing 5G mm-Wave technology to balance high data throughput with reduced RF-EMF exposure. Through beamforming techniques\, she is developing methods to minimize exposure for non-users while ensuring optimal connectivity for users. This work is part of the ETAIN project\, where they study real-world exposure levels and propose strategies for efficient wireless networks. \n  \nThe lunch lecture will take place on October 21 at 12:40 to 13:20\, in Cascade 2.10.

This can be used to create more  energy-efficient\, faster\, and more accurate microchips. \nDuring this lunch lecture you will learn more about the possibilities for work and study in the field of photonics. Andrea Fiore will give a short introduction and will talk about the new MasterPlus Optics&Photonics program. Furthermore\, former students that work in the field of photonics will give some talks about their experiences. Representatives from the PhotonDelta ecosystem will also give pitches. The PhotonDelta ecosystem consists of more than 60 partners that together form the whole chain from the design to the application of photonic chips.
